Planning a street party in Royal Greenwich? Don’t forget your application!

On Saturday 6 May, the nation will come together to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. If you and your neighbours are hoping to host a street party, you’ll need to register your event with the Council.

Councillor Adel Khaireh, Cabinet Member for Equality, Culture and Communities, said: “Street parties are a great way to come together as a community to celebrate historic moments like this one. If you’re planning one, don’t forget to register by Friday 10 March.

“Residents can apply to throw a street party on Saturday 6 May, Sunday 7 May or Monday 8 May. As a royal borough, I can’t wait to see our communities come together to show how regal occasions should be done!”

All street party applications must be received before Friday 10 March 2023.

We will not process any applications received after this date.

Things to remember when planning a street party:

  • You will need to invite all residents and let any businesses on your street know of your plans. Details of any objections must be included in your application.

  • Closing off a road does not give you the right to stop pedestrians passing through.

  • You must finish your street party by 9pm. You can start the party whenever you want during the day.

  • Most small street parties do not need a licence for food and drink. Check our website for exceptions

  • We advise organisers to get insurance.

  • Gambling regulations apply to tombolas or raffles where prizes exceed £500 in value.

  • You will need to clean up after your own street party.

If you are involved with a community group that is planning its own event to mark the coronation, you can apply for up to £10,000 of funding through the National Lottery Awards for All programme. Applications should be made by mid-February to ensure they can be processed in time for the Coronation. Find out more about the Awards for All programme.
