Cllr Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said

"Our thoughts are with anyone affected by the plane crash in Nepal on Sunday 15 January. Royal Greenwich is home to many Nepalese families, and we would like to extend our condolences to not only those who live here, but to those around the world.

"Our Nepalese community is one of the biggest in London and we are proud to be home to such a vibrant population. Our borough’s strong military ties have led many Gurkha soldiers to be stationed in Royal Greenwich and former Gurkha soldiers have settled and raised their families here too.

"We will be opening a Book of Condolence in Woolwich Town Hall and welcome anyone to sign. The book will be open from Wednesday 18 January and will close on 1 February."
