Small Business Saturday is celebrated annually on the first Saturday of December and this year it’s the 3rd of the month.

This is a timely reminder to shop local as thousands of independent traders offer up their best buys and services. Previous events have seen more than £1 billion pumped into the UK economy – that doesn’t just mean treats for shoppers, it means job security and more employment opportunities for local people working in the sector too.

Councillor Denise Hyland, Interim Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Business and Skills, said:

“Small Businesses Saturday is a great opportunity to celebrate and show our support for our amazing small business community. As they face growing economic challenges over the winter, it is more vital than ever that we get behind these businesses and shop local. Plus, shopping at your local shop, restaurant, café, pub or markets pumps money into the local economy.   Don’t forget to show your appreciation for your favourite small trader - whether it's your local shoe repair shop, florist, gift shop or bakery. And remember to use your Greenwich One Card for special discounts from participating businesses too.”
