The incredible achievements of children in care have been recognised this year at a sparkling event hosted at The Valley, the home of Charlton Athletic Football Club.

Some stand-out young people were honoured at our annual Children in Care Awards, hosted by the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Cllr Leo Fletcher.

The Mayor and Mayoress, along with directors in Children’s Services, presented the awards with guest speaker and professional golfer Nicola Bennett, who shared her inspirational story.

There are over 400 children in our care and we are proud of every one of them for their achievements. These awards recognised children and young people who have excelled in different aspects of their education, overcoming adversity and showing creativity, kindness and support to each other.

Categories included academic achievement and progress, developing a positive attitude, achieving in all areas of school life, wider education achievement and determination to succeed.

A special award was also presented by Heather Phillips, the Lady High Sheriff of Greater London.

Councillor Leo Fletcher, Mayor of Royal Greenwich, said afterwards: “As a council we’re proud of all our young people, but it is incredibly inspiring to know that children in our care are doing so well with their studies.

“Congratulations to all who were awarded or shortlisted at this year’s awards, you should be very proud and I wish you all the best for the rest of this school year!”
