BH365 Connecting Communities Dance Festival

Published: Friday, 23rd September 2022

From quizzes to tours and workshops to interactive exhibitions, the Royal Borough of Greenwich is back with its BH365 (Black History 365) calendar for 2022 to 2023.

The Council commissioned local arts and community groups to pull off an exciting lineup across the borough starting this Black History Month.

This is part of the Council’s wider initiative to celebrate and learn about Black History in more depth, all year round and not just for one month.

Cllr Adel Khaireh, Cabinet Member for Equality, Culture and Communities said: “The schedule for this year is fantastic. We are bringing back some of our loyal community groups that always put on a great show but also some new organisations that need their time to shine.

Our goal is to encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to learn more about Black History but also get involved in recognising and celebrating the existing culture we know already.”

The organisations taking part this year are:

  • Black Female Entrepreneur Group

  • S.M.I.L.E-ing Boys

  • Listening Ears

  • ARC And You

  • Parent Power

  • Fresh Chances

  • Positive Future Group

  • LPF Kiddies Club

  • GrIP

  • Home Start

  • Caribbean Social Forum

  • Old Royal Naval College

  • GCDA

Cllr Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Council said: “Black History Month is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contributions of our black community in Royal Greenwich.  We’re proud to be able to do this all year round through an annual programme of activities that builds on our history, our differences and our futures.

“We know there is still work to be done to ensure greater equality for all communities from diverse backgrounds. Our Equality and Equity Charter is our Council’s commitment to ensure our partners, businesses and stakeholders work together to create a society where everyone belongs and there is justice for all.”

All BH365 events are free to attend. Award-winning arts and culture venue Woolwich Works will host the launch event on Friday 30 September. The launch will showcase performances from last year’s programme alongside guest speakers.
