We join the Kaba family, and the growing number of voices across London, in calling for swift action from the Independent Office for Police Conduct and fully support the decision to investigate the shooting as a homicide. 

Councillor Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said: “It is deeply disturbing that Chris Kaba, a young black man about to become a father, has been shot and killed by the police in Streatham.  

“No family should have to go through what Chris Kaba’s family are currently suffering. 

"My thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with them, and the Royal Borough of Greenwich adds its support to their fight for justice.” 

Cllr Ann-Marie Cousins, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Enforcement said: “Chris’s family and friends have shown immense courage and composure at this time, and I continue to hold them in my thoughts and prayers. 

“It's vital that this investigation is done openly and transparently to ensure accountability while also building back trust with families and communities."

Royal Greenwich has had its own experiences with violence, so we know the pain and anger that incidents like this cause.
