Residents of the Royal Borough of Greenwich voted for their new ward councillors in the local elections 2022 on 5 May.

Residents of the Royal Borough of Greenwich voted for their new ward councillors in the local elections 2022 on 5 May.

Following a boundary review in 2021, the borough is now represented by 55 councillors, four greater than previously. There are now 23 wards; fourteen two-councillor wards, and nine three-councillor wards. This is six more wards than before.

The new Council is comprised of 52 Labour councillors and 3 Conservative councillors.

The overall turnout at polling stations across the borough was 33.4 per cent (64,004 ballot papers) lower than in 2018 when the turnout was 36.14 per cent (67,758 ballot papers).

Counters and supervisors worked on Friday 6 May at the Waterfront Leisure Centre in Woolwich to deliver the results. The first ward to be declared was Kidbrooke Park and the last was Eltham Park & Progress.

Debbie Warren, Chief Executive of the Council said:

“Our first ever daytime count has been a success!

We were able to start at 10am and finish by 6pm. This wouldn’t have been possible without the diligent and efficient individuals counting ballot papers on the day and council officers supporting and managing the overall process.

Thank you to every person who was a part of making our democratic process run smoothly and to all our residents who voted on 5 May.”

The names of the Council Leader, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Members will all be agreed at the Annual General Meeting on 25 May.
