Woolwich Sustainable Streets scheme is moving forward following careful consideration of all responses received during the statutory consultation.
The decision report follows a detailed review of responses from residents, businesses and stakeholders, alongside the council's wider objectives to create safer, greener and more accessible streets, while helping to manage parking demand in Woolwich town centre.
The Sustainable Streets programme is designed to reduce unnecessary traffic, improve conditions for cycling, walking, and wheeling, support public transport, the availability of EV charging points and make it easier for residents to access their homes, local businesses and essential services. By encouraging more sustainable journeys, the scheme will help improve air quality and create greener, healthier neighbourhoods.
Before statutory consultation, we undertook extensive engagement with the local community and stakeholders. The feedback received has helped inform the development of the proposals, enabling us to refine the designs and ensure they better respond to local priorities and opportunities.

What happens next?
The council will now begin preparing for implementation, with work taking place over the coming weeks before the new measures are introduced. Before any changes happen, residents and businesses within the scheme area will receive further information explaining:
- The measures being introduced on their street
- When the new arrangements will be installed and become operational
- How and when eligible residents and businesses can apply for any permits they may need
- Where to find further information and support throughout the implementation process.
Where applicable, eligible residents and businesses will have the opportunity to apply for permits before the scheme becomes operational, helping to ensure vehicles are registered in advance. Those with existing permits where timings are changing will not have to apply for new permits and renewals will continue in the same manner and time frames as before.
