Turning the tide: help us protect our borough from flood damage

The Thames Barrier at sunset.

You can help us make our borough safer, more sustainable and more resilient to climate challenges by voicing your opinions on our draft Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS), which includes the sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) on our streets and natural flood management in our woods and green spaces.

What is it?

This strategy will help us improve wider knowledge and understanding of flood risks, use sustainable and natural solutions, reduce the risk of flooding for local communities, and secure new funding to achieve these goals.

Why do we need a LFRMS?

Our location next to the Thames and the dangers posed by the climate emergency mean that a robust flood risk management strategy is vital for the safety of our borough and its residents. Your input gives us insight into resident experiences and concerns about flooding, which helps us counter these risks.

You can read the full draft strategy for more information on our proposals to help defend Royal Greenwich from flood damage.

The climate emergency, which we declared in the borough in 2019, impacts us all which is why we’re tackling it head-on. Consulting on this draft strategy, alongside our Carbon Neutral Plan and the climate leadership ambitions outlined in our visionary Local Plan, underlines our commitment to keeping residents and neighbourhoods safe, and to future-proof our beautiful green spaces and habitats.

This consultation is now open and closes on Monday 4 May.

Together we can build a safe, sustainable and resilient Royal Greenwich for everyone.
