Due to emergency Thames Water works, Woolwich Road will be closed in both directions until tomorrow morning. The cycle lane on the road remains open to cyclists.
The works area has been reinstated and Thames Water are aiming to have their teams off the road tomorrow morning.
Thames Water failed to notify us that they’d be carrying out these works.
All day we have been pushing Thames Water to address the disruption that their works are causing, and as a result of that additional warning signs are being installed, and revised diversions put in place. We are also working to share updates with our key partners, such as Transport for London and the London Fire Brigade.
Bus routes 161, 177 and N1 are diverted in both directions and not serving stops between Woolwich Road/Gallions Road and Rainton Road, and not inappropriately use nearby residential streets.
We advise road users to follow diversion signs via Peartree Way, Bugsby’s Way and Anchor and Hope Way, and not inappropriately use nearby residential streets.
We’d like to apologise for the disruption caused to the area by Thames Water’s works, and we’ll update residents and the wider public when we can. We are raising our serious concerns with Thames Water about their failure to notify us and key stakeholders, and their failure to seek advanced permission for these works.
