A new branch of the Post Office opened its doors in Woolwich today.

Located at 102 Powis Street, Woolwich Post Office, Stationers and Gift Shop has started serving its first customers. The last Post Office branch closed its counter when WH Smiths in Powis Street shut its doors in April 2025.

Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Business, Greenwich Supports and Environmental Services said: “We are getting things done in Woolwich and the opening of the new post office marks one of many improvements to the area. Woolwich is one of our busiest areas and from parcels to passports, it is vital that people have a face-to-face service. As a councillor and a local resident, I wholeheartedly welcome its arrival.”

In a joint statement Manish Garg, Proprietor of Woowich Post Office, Stationers and Gift Shop, and his wife Kriti Garg said“We know people are excited about the Post Office re-opening Powis Street. Our team is working hard to meet their expectations and provide the excellent service they deserve.”

The council’s support in bringing a new post office to Woolwich included funding towards the fit out as well as working closely with British Land to facilitate its return and the jobs it will create.

The new branch features a low-screened, modern serving point as part of its counter. The Post Office also ran a consultation between December 2025 and early January 2026 to gather public feedback on accessibility. The branch is open seven days a week: Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5:30pm and 11am to 4pm on Sunday.
