Council Leader, Councillor Anthony Okereke, has announced the Council's new Cabinet focused on delivering the changes residents want to see and making Greenwich the place to be.

Over the past year the council has been busy getting things done – accelerating investment in the borough, from cracking down on fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour to revamping our town centres and securing major infrastructure improvements like the DLR extension to Thamesmead.

The new Cabinet and their portfolio roles, which were formally approved at the Council’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 27 May, will oversee the next chapter, focusing on practical action and improvements to make Greenwich the place to be for all.

Councillor Anthony Okereke said: “We said we’re getting things done, and that’s exactly what we’re doing. We’ve invested £60million of developers’ cash to improve our borough, from cleaner and safer streets and town centres to a new state-of-the-art SEND school for our young people. This new cabinet will build on that progress, delivering for residents and businesses.

“But there’s no time to pat ourselves on the back. There’s a housing crisis, a cost-of-living crisis, and a climate emergency. That’s why it’s vital that we have services, homes, and infrastructure that works for everyone who calls our borough home.

“Greenwich also has enormous opportunities ahead of it, and we want to make sure that everyone feels that. We’re ambitious with what we’re putting forward – record amounts of much-needed housing to help local people, support with the cost-of-living, and tackling anti-social behaviour. There are practical things we are going to do, like a £150 voucher for every child to get a bike and travel safely and actively, as well as making it easier for residents to get rid of waste and long-term plans to deliver 6,000 social and low rent homes in the next ten years.

“Residents want to see and feel improvements, and this cabinet is focused on delivering exactly that. We have the plan, and now is our chance to cement Greenwich as the place to be.”
