Residents are being invited to input on proposals to create a safer, greener and more accessible route between Plumstead and Abbey Wood for people cycling, walking and wheeling.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich has launched a public consultation on plans to improve connections between Plumstead High Street and Abbey Wood Station, making it easier for residents to travel around the area without relying on a car.
The proposed improvements form part of the council's commitment to creating healthier neighbourhoods and encouraging more sustainable travel.
The plans include:
- Upgraded crossing points
- Wider footways
- New planting and trees
- Traffic-calming measures
- Improved accessibility for wheelchair users and people with mobility aids
- Enhancements to existing cycling routes
- Sustainable drainage
The scheme would replace the existing temporary planters with permanent kerb build-outs, creating a more attractive street environment, reducing street clutter and improving road safety for everyone using the route.
Calum O’Byrne Mulligan
Cabinet Member for Transport, Climate Change, Streets and Waste said:
"We want to hear from residents on these plans to make it safer and easier to get around Plumstead and Abbey Wood. By creating safer and more welcoming streets for residents and visitors, we hope to improve local connections, support local business and make it easier to walk, wheel and cycle.
"Local knowledge is invaluable in shaping projects like this, so we want residents, businesses and community groups to take a look at the plans and share their views through the consultation."
