Cycle, Walk and Wheeling Routes: Greenwich Park to Elverson Road Consultation

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is working to make it easier and safer for people to travel around the borough by walking, wheeling and cycling.

Residents are being invited to help shape proposals for improvements along the cycling and walking route between Greenwich Park and Elverson Road.

The consultation forms part of the council’s wider Cycle, Walk and Wheeling Routes programme, which aims to create safer, cleaner and more welcoming streets and public spaces across the borough. The programme supports healthier lifestyles, improves connections between communities, and encourages more sustainable travel choices.

The proposed improvements include upgraded pedestrian crossings at key locations such as Greenwich South Street, Burney Street and Nevada Street, alongside a new cycling route using quieter roads. Wider improvements are also proposed, including upgraded street lighting, traffic calming measures, improved road markings and the removal of unnecessary street clutter.

The scheme aims to improve everyday journeys for residents, businesses and visitors, while making streets feel safer, more accessible and more pleasant to use.

Calum O'Byrne Mulligan, Cabinet Member for Transport, Climate Change, Streets and Waste, said:

“We know the main reason many people don’t walk or cycle is that they are concerned about road and traffic safety. We want to make sure everyone has the chance to get around our borough safely, however they want to get around.

“These proposals aim to give people the chance to walk, wheel and cycle safely, improving everyday journeys while creating more attractive streets for everyone. Local feedback is vital, and we want as many people as possible to get involved so we can shape the final plans together.”
