Kidbrooke Park Road North, the first phase of a 452-home social housing development, has been shortlisted for a prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) award.

Part of our 1,750 home Greenwich Builds programme, the development features 122-one, two-and three-bedroom homes. Of these 12 are adapted for wheelchair use, in keeping with our commitment to make 10 per cent of all new council homes accessible for people with physical disabilities.

Kidbrooke Park Road North also features a new nursery, extensive landscaping with 69 newly planted trees, a children’s play area and an innovative sustainable energy centre.

A second phase of development is currently underway to the south of the site. Once complete, it will provide a further 330 homes, along with retail space, additional play areas and more landscaping for a total of over 200 new trees across the site.

Cllr Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said:

“We’re so proud to be at the forefront of council home-building, creating new social housing at a scale and pace not seen in a generation, ensuring that everyone in Royal Greenwich has a safe and secure place to live.

Kidbrooke Park Road North is the jewel in the crown of our Greenwich Builds programme, delivering 452 of the 1,750 council homes we’re creating across the borough.

We believe it to be one of, if not the largest new 100% social housing schemes in the UK, and for it to be recognised by the most prestigious architectural awards body in the country is a huge endorsement of our approach to tackling the housing crisis.

We’re excited that RIBA has recognised this and thank the Greater London Authority for their help in funding this fantastic development.”

Part-funded by the Greater London Authority, Kidbrooke Park Road North was developed by the council with architects HTA Design, while construction was carried out by Durkan Homes. Blakeney Leigh acted as employers agent.

Of the 1,750 homes the council has committed to create with its Greenwich Builds programme, 591 are now complete, with a further 528 under construction. Other sites are awaiting planning approval or assessment for viability.

Kidbrooke Park Road North has received several awards, including a Housing Design Award and the New London Architecture Mayor’s Prize.
