Residents, businesses and visitors are invited to share their views on proposed improvements to make it safer and easier to walk, wheel and cycle between Eltham Town Centre and Greenwich Park.
As part of our plans to increase sustainable travel, the council has opened a consultation on plans to create safer, more accessible and better-connected routes for people travelling between the two town centres, whether by bike, on foot, pushing a buggy or using a mobility aid.
The proposals aim to:
- Make it safer and easier for people cycling, walking and wheeling between Eltham and Greenwich
- Improve and connect existing cycling, walking and wheeling routes
- Provide safer routes to nearby primary and secondary schools for people cycling, walking and wheeling
- Offer a practical alternative to travelling by car for shorter journeys
The designs have been developed following feedback received during a previous consultation on the route in 2020.
After listening to concerns raised by residents, the council decided not to proceed with earlier proposals that included some road closures and instead have developed a revised design that continues to support safer and more sustainable travel while responding to community feedback.
Councillor Calum O'Byrne Mulligan, Cabinet Member for Transport, Climate Change, Waste and Streets, said:
"We want to make it safer and easier for people to travel between Eltham and Greenwich by walking, wheeling and cycling, while creating better connections to schools, public transport and local services.
"Everyone deserves the right to get around safely and conveniently, but many people, particularly children, don't feel it is safe enough to walk, wheel or cycle to get around. That's why we believe it is important to create safe routes and good quality infrastructure so everyone can get around safely by whatever mode of transport they choose.
"The proposals have been shaped by feedback we received from residents during our previous consultation. We've listened carefully to concerns and have developed a revised design that reflects residents feedback while ensuring safe routes for everyone.
"We want to hear your thoughts on these new plans, and look forward to hearing from you are drop-in events as well as through the online consultation."
Residents can view the plans and complete the consultation survey online through the council's Community Conversations platform. They will also have the opportunity to meet the project team and discuss the proposals at a series of drop-in events taking place during the consultation period.
The consultation will run from 30 July 2026 until 23 September 2026.
