Learning Disability Week 2026: Do you see me?

People with a learning disability want to be seen, heard and valued. The Royal Borough of Greenwich is proud to be supporting Learning Disability Week from 15 to 21 June 2026, joining Mencap’s national campaign to celebrate diversity and inclusion.

The council is organising and supporting a series of events throughout the week, aimed at celebrating the talents and contributions of people with learning disabilities to our community, including a resident-led exhibition and interactive panel. We would like to encourage residents to participate in events, show their support, and embrace the spirit of unity and diversity that defines Learning Disability Week.

The theme for this year’s Learning Disability Week is ‘Do you see me?’. By championing Learning Disability Week, the council aims to spread awareness, break down barriers, and celebrate the unique abilities of every individual.

Councillor Mariam Lolavar, Cabinet Member for Health, Adult Social Care and Communities said:

“It’s our mission to help residents live their best lives, with equal opportunity. We want to make sure people with a learning disability feel seen, included, and recognised for the valuable contributions they make to our communities. By celebrating Learning Disability Week, we want to recognise our differences, promote acceptance, and create a more inclusive society for all.”

“Through sport, creativity, performance, exhibitions and community events, we’re proud to showcase the talents, self-identity, resilience and dynamism of our learning disability community. The events are open to the public, so please do come and join us. We’d love to see you there!”

Raymond, who has a learning disability, said:

"I'm looking forward to all the activities planned for Learning Disability Week. I'm really looking forward to the interesting stage show and celebrating with some dancing! I hope my favourite band, ABBA, will be playing. I'm also excited to participate and engage in the exhibitions and shows."

Keith, who has a learning disability said:

“I like to sing George Michael and Girls Aloud! I love it! I am excited to party with all my friends this Learning Disability Week.”

Amanda, who has a learning disability said:

“Do you see me? I’m the lady of the house! This Learning Disability Week I want to tell the staff thank you for looking after me and being kind to me.”
