High-rise residents invited to shape the final building safety resident engagement strategy

Tenants and leaseholders who live in high-rise-buildings across the borough are being invited to give their final thoughts on the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s plan for communicating and engaging with them around building safety.

The 12-week long consultation on the borough’s Draft Building Safety Resident Engagement Strategy includes the results of pre-engagement held last year with residents. The results of that showed that 86% said they knew what to do if there was a fire, 73% said they felt their building was safe and 71% said the home they live in is safe.

At this stage of the consultation, we have incorporated residents’ feedback within our overall approach to communication and engagement, including how we will manage complaints. Their input has informed when and how we will communicate with them on key topics, as well as the type of engagement we will do when there are planned, non-emergency building works.

The Draft Building Safety Resident Engagement Strategy will be distributed to all households in the borough’s high-rise buildings that are above seven storeys or 18 metres high. Other people interested in building safety like contractors who work in the building, or carers and family members, can also take part.

Residents can read it and provide any more ideas or suggestions to feed into the final strategy which will be available later in the year. Written responses can be returned by completing the survey and posting it using the Freepost envelope provided.

Alternatively, the survey can be completed online at royalgreenwich.gov.uk/hrb-safety-strategy (a one-time registration will be required).

There will also be further opportunities for residents to have their say at a series of in-person events and webinars later in the spring.

The consultation ends on Sunday 14 June, 5pm.
