Disruption due to SGN works on Shooters Hill this summer

Fields with buildings and a road in the background.

Due to SGN carrying out gas network upgrades, there will be phased disruption on Shooters Hill and the surrounding area this summer.

The upgrades are intended to replace ageing gas mains with safer, longer-lasting materials which are less prone to leaks and breakages.

Councillor Calum O’Byrne Mulligan, Cabinet Member for Transport, Climate Change, Waste and Streets, said: “We understand that works like these can be frustrating, and we really appreciate the patience of residents and road users while SGN complete these upgrades. The short-term pain of facilitating these works will ultimately lead to a long-term gain: safer, more robust gas mains less likely to cause issues in the future.

“We’ve worked closely with partners to ensure the impact of these works is minimal. Thanks to these discussions, TfL bus services can run as usual without the need for diversions and we've also successfully negotiated with SGN a shorter works period for the junction of Well Hall Road and Academy Road. We're confident that these solutions will ease the overall impact on local people in our borough.”

Additionally, we have confirmed with Thames Water that none of the same roads clash with their proposed upgrades to water mains in the wider Shooters Hill area scheduled for later this year, meaning no repeat disruption for affected residents.

Which roads are impacted?

  • SGN will be working along both sides of Craigholm from the junction of Shooters Hill until approximately Monday 29 June. Traffic will be managed by multi-way lights.
  • SGN will be working at the junction between Severndroog Castle and Shooters Hill until Monday 6 July. Traffic will be managed by multi-way lights.
  • SGN will continue working along Shooters Hill towards the A205. Traffic will be managed by a lane closure.
  • For four weeks from Wednesday 22 July, SGN will continue working along Shooters Hill to the junction with Well Hall Road and Academy Road. These works have been scheduled in line with school holidays. The council has negotiated a four-week works period rather than six in order to reduce disruption to local people. Traffic may be managed by multi-way lights.
  • For three weeks from Monday 17 August, SGN will be working along Shooters Hill to the junction of Red Lion Place. Traffic will be managed by lane closures and signals.

Access

SGN have confirmed that pedestrian, property and emergency service access will be maintained throughout the works. Deliveries for local businesses and residents will also be unimpacted.

Stay up-to-date

If you’re impacted by these works and would like to find out more, visit SGN’s contact centre or call their customer service team on 0800 912 1700.

Due to the disruption in the area, we'd advise residents to check their journey before they travel via the TfL Journey Planner or TfL Go app.

We’d like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience SGN’s works will cause and thank residents for their patience while these upgrades are completed.
