Join the Royal Borough of Greenwich and our partners to celebrate Windrush Day with a range of inclusive activities.

From storytelling, crafts and dominoes at libraries, to film screenings and creative workshops, explore and learn about the history and legacies of the Windrush Generation.

Councillor Adel Khaireh, Cabinet Member for Equalities, Culture and Leisure, said: "Here in Royal Greenwich we’re proud to be home to many residents from, and descendants of, the Windrush Generation.

“Windrush Day is an opportunity to reflect on the history and legacy of the Windrush Generation and their families, and their invaluable contribution within our communities.

“Activities are taking place across the borough, from inspiring stories on film to social dominoes, and you can even trace your own ancestors through Caribbean family history workshops. Get involved!”

Windrush Day is celebrated annually on the 22 June, commemorating the anniversary of the arrival of the HMT Empire Windrush at Tilbury Docks from Jamaica in 1948, carrying 1,027 people invited to the UK to help rebuild post-war Britain. These travellers - and those on other ships which came to the UK until 1971 - became known as the Windrush Generation. The day honours the Windrush Generation and their descendants for their lasting social, economic, and cultural contributions to modern Britain.
