Royal Greenwich council tenants are being offered a greater say in how housing decisions are made by applying to join the new Tenant Insight and Oversight Panel (TIOP).
The new tenant-led panel will offer opportunities to lead tenants to use their lived experience, and that of other tenants, alongside key council teams, to directly influence the policies and initiatives that shape housing services across the borough, while making recommendations for improvement.
Council Leader, Cllr Anthony Okereke said: “This panel is about putting tenants at the forefront of housing decisions that directly affect them and the homes they live in.
"We’re proud to be one of the first councils to be working alongside Tpas (Tenant Participation Advisory Service) to help us design it, so that tenants have a genuine voice and that their lived experience influences what we do.
"The panel marks a significant milestone for us in strengthening tenant-led scrutiny in the borough, and I hope that tenants who want to drive change put themselves forward to join the panel.”
The council is encouraging tenants with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences to apply provided they are the named tenant on their tenancy agreement. No prior experience is necessary, but tenants should be able to commit to the four-year term and be able to work well with others, communicate clearly, consider different views and make fair decisions.
The panel is one of many ways the council is engaging with residents as outlined in the council’s Housing Resident Engagement Policy. It will meet several times a year, in-person and online and scrutinise a range of services, initiatives and policies.
All applications will be reviewed by a selection panel and the top applicants will be invited to be interviewed for one of eight places.
