Hansel and Gretel will be pirouetting their way through Woolwich’s revamped Beresford Square on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 November in a ballet production of the Grimm’s fairytale to celebrate Halloween weekend.
Follow the breadcrumbs down to Woolwich and watch the pair escape the clutches of the wicked witch to an eclectic soundtrack, ranging from Vivaldi’s Winter concerto to more modern musical pieces.
Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Business, Skills and Greenwich Supports said: “As we witnessed with the popularity of Greenwich and Docklands International Festival over the summer, our newly revamped Beresford Square is the perfect space for public performances. We want to bring people together with this production of Hansel and Gretel and mark the start of a new season.
“Come to be entertained, stop for lunch at one of the many wonderful food trucks at Beresford Square and browse the market stalls for bargains. Woolwich has many hidden gems to be discovered. You will also be supporting local, independent businesses.”
There will be two performances of Hansel and Gretel on both days at 11:30am and 2:30pm. Each performance will be 40 minutes long but keep your eye out for other dancers among the Woolwich weekend crowd throughout the afternoon.
The event is free and open to everyone. Just turn up and enjoy this sugar-coated spectacle, which is being put on by Let’s All Dance and funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
