Friday 10 October 2025

Royal Borough of Greenwich is expanding its adult and community learning programme to give more focus to child development. The International Education Group (TiEGr) has partnered with Greenwich Learns – the council's Adult and Community Learning service – to launch two inclusive programmes to empower parents and carers to support their children’s learning and explore careers in childcare and early years education.

Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Business, Skills, and Greenwich Supports, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for families to learn together, grow in confidence, and make connections. The International Education Group’s approach is inclusive, practical, and aligned with our priorities for lifelong learning and employment.

“These programmes help parents and carers support their children’s education and open new doors for personal and professional growth. By investing in programmes like these, we’re building stronger communities, improving educational outcomes, and creating pathways to meaningful careers in childcare and early years education.”

The first programme – Family Learning in English and Maths – offers up to 30 hours of engaging sessions held in schools and community hubs. The programme helps parents build confidence in literacy and numeracy while equipping them to support their children’s education at home. Tailored to Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Key Stage 1 (KS1), and Key Stage 2 (KS2), the course includes both parent–child sessions and adult-only learning opportunities.

The second programme – Introduction to Working in Childcare and Early Years Settings – is a 30-hour course which will providing foundational training for those interested in pursuing careers in the sector. Delivered in both the classroom and online, this hybrid learning course covers key topics such as child development, safeguarding, food hygiene, and employability skills.

The courses will start in a selection of local schools and early education providers later this autumn. Participating schools will contact parents and carers directly.
