Prime Point moves a step closer to delivering much needed affordable housing

The Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning, Estate Renewal and Development Councillor Majid Rahman, joined the government's Housing Minister and local MP Matthew Pennycook and London’s Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development, Tom Copley, on Greenwich Peninsula recently to celebrate topping out of a new 70 per cent affordable housing scheme.
Prime Point, by housing association L&Q Homes, will bring 476 new homes and is a major step towards delivering more affordable housing in the borough. The homes will be split between London Affordable Rent (LAR), London Living Rent (LLR) and Shared Ownership.
Cllr Majid Rahman, Cabinet Member for Planning, Estate Renewal and Development, who attended the topping out on the roof of the 30-storey Woodget Heights building, said:
“It's one of Our Greenwich missions to ensure that residents live in safe and secure homes, and by working with housing associations such as L&Q we can help ensure we have more high-quality affordable housing. I look forward to when residents start to move in next year and can then call Greenwich Peninsula home. Just like tenants who have already moved into 100 of our own council homes nearby at Greenwich Millenium Village last summer as part of Greenwich Builds that is delivering 1,750 new council homes borough wide.”
Residents will begin to move into their new homes next year, with all properties set to be fully built out by 2027. Prime Point is part of the Greenwich Peninsula masterplan, will also deliver 3,000 sqm of landscape and streetscape improvements, including playspace and amenity space, on what is currently a brownfield site.
Last summer tenants began moving into 100 newly completed council homes in Greenwich Peninsula. A further 99 council homes are under construction and are expected to be completed next year. The council purchased those properties at Greenwich Millenium Village with its own funds and a grant from the Greater London Authority.
