Partial closures on Greenwich High Road in November due to improvement works

For 11 weeknights starting from the evening of 10 November 2025, the Royal Borough of Greenwich will be resurfacing the carriageway in Greenwich High Road from Greenwich South Street to the A2 Deptford Bridge.

Work is scheduled to take place each night between 8pm and 5am, meaning impacted roads will close during these times. Outside of these hours, and on weekends, the road will be open as normal.

Councillor Calum O’Byrne Mulligan, Interim Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Sustainability and Transport, said: “The condition of our borough’s streets and roads is a top priority for the council and our residents. By resurfacing Greenwich High Road, we are taking another vital step towards improving our highway network by providing a safer, smoother route between Greenwich South Street and Deptford Bridge.

“While I acknowledge the inconvenience that the period of nightly road closures will cause, and I thank users for their patience, the disruption will be mitigated by well-signed diversion routes and footway marshals who can assist those with specific access requirements.

“Once complete, I’m confident that these crucial improvements to our highway infrastructure will make life easier for motorists, cyclists and public transport users.”

The works will be delivered in two phases with diversion routes already outlined for each.

Phase 1 – Deptford Bridge to Norman Road (10 November 2025 to 17 November 2025)

  • Eastbound diversion via Deptford Bridge / Deptford Church Street / Creek Road / College Approach / King William Walk
  • Westbound diversion via Greenwich South Street / Blackheath Road

Phase 2 – Norman Road to Greenwich South Street (18 November 2025 to 24 November 2025)

  • Eastbound diversion via Greenwich High Road / Norman Road / Creek Road / College Approach / King William Walk
  • Westbound diversion via Blackheath Hill / Shooters Hill Road / A102 / Woolwich Road / Trafalgar Road / Romney Road
