A man has been jailed after being caught twice using stolen and lost disabled parking permits (Blue Badges) to park illegally in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

On 25 August 2025, at Bromley Magistrates Court, 32-year-old Ademola Akinkunmi of Heathcote Street, Dartford, was sentenced to six months in prison for fraudulently using Blue Badges to park his Mercedes in Greenwich and Woolwich.

Mr Akinkunmi was first caught in June 2022 on College Approach, Greenwich, using a permit that had been reported stolen. He was issued with a penalty notice of £195. He was caught again in February 2024 in Macbean Street, Woolwich, this time using a permit reported as lost. He initially appealed the penalty but later paid £65.

Council investigators interviewed Mr Akinkunmi about both penalty charge notices, but he claimed he hadn’t been driving at the time, couldn’t say who was, and had no idea what had happened to the two Blue Badges that were used.

Following a full investigation, he was charged with two counts of fraud by false representation and two counts of possession of an article for use in fraud. He pleaded guilty in August 2025 and was sentenced to prison and ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.

Councillor Denise Hyland Cabinet Member for Finance, Resources and Social Value, said: “Blue Badges are there to help people with serious mobility issues live their lives with independence and dignity. When someone misuses them, it isn’t just a rule being broken, it’s a parking space being stolen from a neighbour who really needs it.

“This case shows we will take action against people who abuse the system. Our message is simple, respect Blue Badges and respect those who rely on them.”
