Increase in London Living Wage will see residents better off by almost £2,000 a year

London Living Wage Week 2025

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is celebrating London Living Wage Week 2025 with the news that the hourly rate paid has been raised by nearly seven per cent to £14.80.

London Living Wage is independently calculated based on what people need to provide for themselves and their families by considering the cost of fuel, energy, rent and food. Over 7,000 workers in the borough received a pay rise this year thanks to London Living Wage and will be almost £2,000 better off. Over 130 businesses in Royal Greenwich have committed to being London Living Wage employers and together have ensured more than 23,000 employees receive wages they can realistically live on.

Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Business, Greenwich Supports and Environmental Services said: “We want everyone in Royal Greenwich to secure a good job, have the best working conditions, and help employers create a supportive work environment. Hard working people deserve decent pay without the worry of how to cover everyday costs; London Living Wage guarantees that. We want to thank all the businesses which are already accredited, and encourage others to sign up to make a real difference to people’s lives through the pay they receive. London Living Wage is a fundamental step to a creating a fair and more inclusive economy.”

By pledging to pay the London Living Wage, businesses also benefit from better staff satisfaction, a more resilient workforce and enhanced customer trust. The council provides grants for smaller businesses that have their base in the borough to assist with accreditation for the first three years.
