A series of road and lane closures will come into force from 29 September to make way for a continuous cycle route between Woolwich and Greenwich.

Transport for London's Cycleway 4 extension will make our streets safer for those travelling on foot and by bike.

The works to create the route are expected to last for 18 months, during which the road closures listed below will be in place, with diversion routes clearly signed.

Councillor Calum O'Byrne Mulligan, Interim Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Sustainability and Transport, said:

“The extension of Cycleway 4 will improve active travel connections across Greenwich and South East London, ensuring a continuous, safe and protected cycle and active travel route all the way the from Woolwich to London Bridge.

"The Cycleway 4 connection will reduce pollution and our impact on the environment, while improving residents’ health and wellbeing by making it easier to travel by bike or on foot.

"I appreciate the inconvenience resulting from the road and lane closures to allow for this improvement, but these will be managed with well signed diversion routes, and are a necessary part of works to improve our cycling infrastructure so that residents can actively travel every day.”

For 24 hours on Monday 29 September, bus and cycle lanes will be suspended along Woolwich Road and Woolwich Church Street, from the junction with Gallions Road to the roundabout at John Wilson Street, and along the entire length of Anchor and Hope Lane and Charlton Church Lane.
