Council Leader, Anthony Okereke has announced a reshuffle of his Cabinet ahead of the festive break.

As part of the changes and to ensure stability as we consult on the Local Plan, Council Leader Anthony Okereke will now take on the role of Cabinet Member for Planning, Estate Renewal and Development, after Cllr Majid Rahman stepped down from the role on 16 December.

The reshuffle will also introduce a new role responsible for driving forward and implementing co-operative collaboration within the borough, as set out in the Together for Greenwich: Co‑operation for the Future report. Cllr Averil Lekau, will lead this new portfolio as Cabinet Member for Co‑operative Innovation and Co‑op Partnerships.

Cllr Lekau’s former position – Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Sustainability and Transport – will be led by Cllr Calum O’Byrne-Mulligan.

Councillor Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said: “On behalf of the council, I would like to thank Cllr Rahman for all his hard work and dedication during his time as cabinet member. His work will have a lasting legacy: the delivery of new homes as part of Greenwich Builds including the award-winning Kidbrooke Park Road development, the new state-of-the-art leisure centre Woolwich Waves, Thamesmead being shortlisted as a new town and the extension of the DLR. I look forward to working with Cllr Rahman is his new capacity of Cabinet Assistant to deliver the vision we set out in Our Greenwich.

“In Greenwich, we are getting things done which means making sure we have the right skills and expertise in place to provide the best to our residents. I’d like to extend my thanks to Cllr Lekau for her invaluable contribution to Cabinet so far and look forward to working with her in her new role. I know that she will provide the experience and leadership needed to build a co-operative sector that empowers people and has community at its heart.
