Council launches building safety consultation for residents in high-rise buildings

Residents who live in council-managed high-rise buildings are being asked to help shape the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s new resident engagement strategy around building safety.  

This new survey is aimed at residents who live in council buildings that are above seven storeys or 18 metres high and will provide an opportunity for tenants and leaseholders to help influence the council’s final building safety resident engagement strategy later in the year. 

Councillor Pat Slattery, Cabinet Member for Housing Management, Neighbourhoods and Homelessness, said: “Our residents’ safety is our top priority – so is making sure their voices are captured in how we communicate with them about their home or block. If you’re a council tenant or leaseholder in a high-rise block, then please take this opportunity to help shape what our final strategy looks like when it’s published later in the year.” 
 
The survey asks residents to feedback on our draft aims and objectives, how they can influence building safety decisions and how the council should communicate important and relevant information about building safety.  

Residents can participate by:  

  • Completing the online survey at royalgreenwich.gov.uk/high-rise-building-safety-survey from Monday 12 May until Tuesday 10 June at 5pm.   
  • Completing a paper copy of the survey which can be collected from their local library or requested from the Building Safety Team on 020 8921 6139.   
  • Attending an in-person survey completion session with council officers on the following days, times and venues: 
    Monday 12, 19 May and 2 June at The Forum, Trafalgar Road SE10 9EQ 
    Wednesday 14 and 28 May at St Mary’s Community Centre, Eltham High Street SE9 1BJ
  • Joining an online webinar on Tuesday 20 May, 6:30pm to 8pm with opportunities to meet with staff to talk about the draft strategy and support them in completing the survey.
