The Royal Borough of Greenwich is proud to announce a donation of £3,800 to Greenwich Giving, recognising the scheme’s incredible work supporting people and communities across the borough.
The funds have been raised through commercial filming activity at various locations across Royal Greenwich. As part of the council’s commitment to ensuring that filming directly benefits residents, a portion of the revenue generated has been reinvested back into the community.
Greenwich Giving, the borough’s local giving scheme developed by METRO Charity, brings together residents, businesses and community organisations to support projects that strengthen neighbourhoods, local places and community spirit.
Councillor Sandra Bauer, Cabinet Member for Equality, Communities and Culture said:
“We know how much of a difference Greenwich Giving continues to make. From helping local people to supporting grassroots organisations, the charity has become a vital part of our community. This donation is a small way for us to say thank you for everything they do, and to show our commitment to ensuring that the benefits of commercial filming in our borough are felt by the people who live here.”
Councillor Mariam Lolavar, Cabinet Member for Health, Adult Social Care and Borough of Sanctuary said:
“Greenwich Giving plays a crucial role in improving wellbeing and strengthening the fabric of our borough. Their work touches many lives, particularly those who need support the most. We’re delighted to contribute to their mission and to champion a scheme that embodies the compassion and generosity of our community and puts our neighbourhoods at the centre of its work.”
Anna Ritchie, Head of Greenwich Giving said:
“Greenwich Giving believes that everyone has something to give – sometimes that's money, sometimes it is time, knowledge or experience. People that live in Greenwich are the ones most affected by funding decisions, and that's why involving the community in grant-making is so important. We are delighted to receive this donation from the council so that we can continue to centre residents' voices and empower them to create change in their own neighbourhoods."
Greenwich Giving will be investing the council’s donation into the Social Connection Fund, a brand new project empowering residents to take action for their community to tackle loneliness and isolation. It provides funding and practical support for residents to run a club, activity or event in their neighbourhood.
The council’s latest contribution will help Greenwich Giving to deliver vital support to organisations and residents, and will ensure that the positive impact of filming in the borough is felt where it matters most.
