Former council leader Len Duvall OBE has been honoured with a peerage elevating him to the House of Lords.
Currently serving as Greenwich and Lewisham's London Assembly Member, Mr Duvall grew up in Woolwich and has represented our communities for decades.
Elected in 1990, Mr Duvall was a long-standing councillor who served as the leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich from 1992 to 2000, at which point he was elected to the London Assembly.
Councillor Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said: “Len’s a true public servant who has dedicated many years of his life to representing Greenwich, constantly campaigning for a fairer and more inclusive society. His recognition is well deserved and there are few people I can think of that do a better job of advocating for Greenwich. I want to extend my congratulations to Len and look forward to working alongside him on behalf of our borough.”
Over the years Mr Duvall has campaigned extensively on local causes, including regeneration of the Thames Gateway and Greenwich Waterfront. He is also associated with local charities.
This week he joined us at the premier of our new film Red, which shines a light on the impact of serious violence on young women and girls, demonstrating his allyship for ending violence against women.
