Featuring new wooden chalets for an extra touch of yuletide magic, our Christmas markets in Greenwich and Woolwich have launched.
Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Business, Greenwich Supports and Environmental Services, said: “Our popular and vibrant Christmas markets already attract shoppers far and wide, but this year they will be bigger and better than ever. The markets have had a makeover, so local sellers will now pitch up in picture-perfect festive chalets.
“There are plenty of gift-buying options from local artisans and craft-makers, as well as an array of food and drink vendors and other entertainment.
“We are also excited to give young entrepreneurs their first chance to trade at Beresford Square as part of our Young Enterprise Programme. Come to have fun and be merry, pick the perfect Christmas present and support homegrown businesses.”
Until Christmas Eve, our markets will be home to over 40 local traders across two locations - Beresford Square in Woolwich and Greenwich High Road, just down the road from Greenwich station – to complement the existing shopping choices in both town centres.
With the countdown now on to the big day, there is something for everyone. Browse beautiful and unique gifts for loved ones including handmade jewellery, Christmas hampers, pottery, cosmetics and clothing. Young entrepreneurs on our Youth Enterprise Programme will also launch their businesses at Beresford Square throughout December.
There is a delicious range of food on offer including Greek, Italian, North Indian, Caribbean, Spanish, Turkish, Korean and Eastern European cuisine as well as an array of hot drinks - from hot chocolate to masala chai - for those in need of a winter warmer.
That’s not all. Shoppers can strike a pose in the photo booths at both markets. The Let’s All Dance ballet company will return to Beresford Square with a performance of The Nutcracker on 13 and 14 December, and there will be live music performances to enjoy in Greenwich High Road the weekend before Christmas (19 to 21 December). Marsha Kyia brings soulful, gospel-influenced vocals with roots in church singing. Award-winning party band Groove 101 will get the celebrations started with their versions of dancefloor anthems, and five-piece The Loves Notes will play original songs with a mix of well-known covers.
