We have received three nominations in the first Advising Londoners Awards which recognise outstanding free support offered to people struggling with rising costs, debt and legal advice.
We have been shortlisted in three categories and the nominees are:
- Best borough-wide advice team: Advice Hubs
- Best contribution by a team: Money Advice Team
- Best use of evidence: Welfare Rights Service
Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Business, Skills and Greenwich Supports: “This recognition reflects the care, compassion and dedication our advice teams show every day.
“They listen without judgement, act quickly and continue to stand beside residents during times of hardship because it is so important that anyone in our borough doesn’t feel alone. We named our cost of living care Greenwich Supports because we know that the right help, at the right time, can make the biggest difference, and that is what we will continue to champion across Royal Greenwich.”
Councillor Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich said: “Behind every statistic is a person, maybe a neighbour struggling with debt, a parent trying to keep the lights on or keep their family warm, or even a young person trying to find their feet.
“These teams are making a real difference to the lives of people struggling with ongoing rising costs, and whether we win or lose, we’re proud to see their commitment recognised across London.”
These services are a lifeline, helping families manage rising costs and access the benefits and support they’re entitled to. They offer free, confidential advice to thousands of residents, giving people the resources they need to improve their situation.
The Advising Londoners Awards were started by Legal Action Group. Winners will be announced at a ceremony on Tuesday 18 November.
