Applications are now open for the first £250k funding round of the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s new Community Energy Fund (CEF) – a four-year initiative worth a total of £1million designed to supercharge renewable energy and help cut emissions across the borough.
The CEF was developed as part of the Together for Greenwich: Co-operation for the future, a report commissioned to help develop a long-term co-operative vision for the borough. Community energy aims to create a fairer, greener energy system by cutting emissions, reducing fuel poverty, and empowering communities. CEF grants are for local groups whose projects help achieve these aims.
Submissions must be received by Friday 16 January 2026, with the aim to announce successful projects on Friday 27 February 2026.
Councillor Mariam Lolavar, Cabinet Member for Health, Adult Social Care and Borough of Sanctuary, said: “I am delighted to be launching this exciting element of the Together for Greenwich co-operative report, which is a major development in the council’s mission to tackle the climate emergency head-on. The Community Energy Fund gives local people the opportunity to secure grant funding to support the delivery of initiatives that will help make Greenwich cleaner, greener and more sustainable. In doing so, it serves as a continuation of our borough’s historic pedigree of cooperative collaboration, uplifting residents and businesses in the process.”
Councillor Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, added: “With a total of £1million over four years available to communities in our borough, it’s a game-changer for our mission to decarbonise the borough and make clean energy more affordable and accessible for everyone. By employing a community-led approach to making Greenwich more resilient to climate challenges, we’re getting things done for both present and future generations.”
The CEF also represents a huge step forward in the council’s ambitions outlined in our Carbon Neutral Plan.
Applications for CEF are now open and can be made through Action Funder, a platform that matches community projects to potential funders. You can submit an application or find out more here.
