Charlie Davis elected as councillor for Eltham Town and Avery Hill 

Charlie Davis has been elected as the new councillor for Eltham Town and Avery Hill following a by-election on Thursday 17 October. 

Voters went to the polls following the resignation of councillor Sammy Backon, who was elected into office in May 2022. 

Charlie Davis, Conservative, was declared the winner having received 1,522 votes.   

Turnout for the by-election was 27.95%, with a total of 3,121 ballots cast. The full results, in alphabetical order, are:     

Charlie Davis, Local Conservatives: 1,522  

Kieran Edwards, Liberal Democrats: 132  

Ruth Handyside, Reform UK: 290  

Chris McGurk, Labour Party: 981  

Arnold Tarling, Independent: 69  

Mark Williams, The Green Party: 123 

Attention will now turn to the Shooter’s Hill by-election, which takes place on Thursday 14 November.   

If you’re away on polling day, register for a postal ballot by 5pm on 29 October or a proxy vote by 5pm on 6 November. 

Polls will open at 7am and close at 10pm on election day, and you must have a valid ID to vote in person. If you don’t already have valid photo ID, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate by 5pm on 6 November.
