We’re building a workforce that reflects and celebrates our diverse community at the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
More than one-third of our colleagues come from backgrounds that are part of the global majority.
We work to ensure inclusion, equity, and fairness are built into every part of how we work.
Our commitment
We believe everyone should feel safe, respected and allowed to thrive at work.
That’s why we take a zero-tolerance approach to any kind of discrimination, harassment, or victimisation.
Inclusion is part of our corporate plan, Our Greenwich, and is supported by:
- a council-wide Anti-Racism Strategy
- an active Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Steering Group
- regular training and open conversations about race, equity and bias
- a growing network of EDI Champions in every directorate
Staff networks and support
We know that people thrive in workplaces where they feel heard and understood.
That’s why we support employee-led networks where colleagues can connect, raise issues and drive change.
These include:
- Race Equality Network (REN)
- Mental Health and Wellbeing Network
- LGBTQIA+ Network
- Women’s Network
- Young Professionals Network
- Faith and belief forums
Our networks are safe, welcoming spaces that are open to all staff, whether you identify with the group or want to act as an ally.
How we're building an inclusive workplace
We’ve worked with staff to shape our Anti-Racism Strategy.
Throughout the year, we also run events and programmes such as:
- Race Equality Week
- our Reciprocal Mentoring programme
- The Tackling Structural Racism Book & Film Club
You can also build your understanding through our Learning Hub, which offers training such as:
- Let’s Talk About Race
- Active Bystander Training
- Tackling Racism
- Equality in the Workplace
Support at work
Our approach is confidential, respectful, and guided by our Dignity and Respect at Work Policy.
We encourage colleagues to speak up and get support if they experience discrimination, harassment or victimisation
We also offer:
- a free, confidential Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
- support from trained Wellbeing Champions
- resources to help with mental health and recovery
