Becoming a Housing Champion

You can only become a Housing Champion if you are a Royal Greenwich council tenant or leaseholder.

Housing Champions help and support residents on their estate. Housing champions take a lead role in engagement and play an active part in shaping services for their estate and community.

This role can make a big difference to your community and it is crucial for us to understand the gaps in our services and how we can improve them.

Champions will be a point of contact for neighbours to raise issues, represent the resident voice and signpost people to important information. Officers within the Community Participation and Diversity Team will provide the necessary training and support needed so that Champions are equipped.

We have three positions which residents can choose from:

  • Level one - The Broadcaster

In this role, you will share information about what’s going on in your estate with residents via face-to-face meetings or social media (such as WhatsApp or Facebook).

  • Level 2 - The Active Engager

In this role, you will take lead in improving your estate by working on projects like community gardens and estate walkabouts  while flagging any issues with the Council.

  • Level 3 - The Ultimo

In this role, you share information, take a lead in new projects on your estate and develop a professional understanding in housing with career opportunities through accredited training and an apprenticeship linked scheme.

There’s lots of training and support available to help you become a Housing Champion including;

  • free two-hour induction course and online training
  • fortnightly support and advice from your Community Participation and Diversity Officer
  • access to further training to develop your skills as you work in your role
  • opportunity to be a Housing Champion in a specific area such as community gardens, digital skills, estate walkabouts and in equality and diversity.
