Free public transport for under 18s
All under 18s in full-time education can get free travel on buses and trams and discounted rates of travel using Oyster pay-as-you-go and on some travel cards.
To be eligible you must:
- be 16 or 17, permanently resident within a London borough and be in full-time education or unwaged training, or
- be 18, permanently resident within a London borough, be in full-time education or unwaged training and apply before the end of the academic year in which you turn 18.
Full-time education is defined as 12 hours of guided learning per week for a minimum of ten weeks on further education courses in school sixth forms, sixth form colleges and further education colleges. It can also include apprenticeships, training courses funded by the Young People's Learning Agency and some courses funded by the Skills Funding Agency.
Local and national rail services
A 16 to 25 Railcard gives ticket discounts of up to one third of the price to young people aged between 16 and 25 years. For further information and to apply, visit the 16 to 25 Railcard website.
