What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about my job is that I get to give back. I get to provide upcoming creatives with the support and opportunities which I wish I had had when I started out in the creative industry. As an international DJ with over 13years in the creative industry, I understand the advantage of creating and promoting a healthy environment for creatives to thrive, network and grow.
How does your organisation work with and support women in the borough?
One of the many ways Tribe Urban supports women in the borough is by offering training and mentorship programs that provide women with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their chosen fields. These programs include workshops, networking events, webinars, or one-on-one mentorship opportunities.
We are also strong advocates for a healthy work-life balance. As a working mother myself, I know the importance of promoting and supporting other mothers especially in the workplace. We understand many women face unique challenges in balancing work and family responsibilities and sometimes health issues. By offering resources and support such as flexible work arrangements, childcare assistance, mental health days/support and even the odd hot water bottle ensures we are doing our part to lighten their load.
Part of our company's ethos is promoting equality and diversity; this also includes gender. Part of Tribe Urban's staff handbook is our company's policies and practices that support women, advocating for equal pay, equal opportunities & maternity leave policies.
A tip for women who want to build a career in your sector?
I would say do not restrict yourself, lean into what makes you different. Your ideas are valid, your decisions are valid. Most importantly your instincts are valid.
As women, one of the key ingredients that make up our DNA is our instincts, and you might not always have the answers. On those occasions, I would advise you take a silent moment to listen to your instinct and go with your gut feeling. You might just find what you are looking for.
Also, everyone advises women to 'be strong' but being strong doesn't always mean you should suffer in silence or be a lone wolf. Part of being strong is building your own strength circle. A team of like-minded people you can rely on for support and bounce ideas off.
Most importantly find a way to enjoy what you do.
What do you like most about running your business in Royal Greenwich?
Greenwich is diverse borough full of tourist attractions and educational facilities, we have been fortunate to have access to a pool of talented and motivated individuals who can help drive growth and innovation.
The borough also supports, highlights and invests in local/small businesses and continuously finds ways to incorporate them into the wider framework of the borough.
Lastly, the fact that Greenwich is easily accessible is a big advantage to the business. When running a media house, location is everything.
