We comply with all relevant safety regulations and take every possible step to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all residents in our buildings.
Here’s what we’re doing to keep our tenants and leaseholders safe.
Carrying out regular fire risk assessments
We conduct fire risk assessments across our properties to ensure that homes meet the highest safety standards.
Any necessary safety improvements are carried out promptly.
Installation and maintenance of smoke and fire alarms
We install, maintain, check and test smoke and fire alarms in all our rented homes.
We’ve checked alarms in over 10,000 homes over the last 2 years. We are working hard to complete checks on the remaining 10,000 properties.
If you own your home, it is your responsibility to install and maintain working smoke and fire alarms.
Inspection of fire doors and escape routes
We carry out regular inspections of communal fire doors in high rise buildings to ensure they are fit for purpose.
We have also begun checking flat entrance doors in buildings over 18 metres high.
We remove flammable items from communal areas where caretaking services are in place.
Your responsibility as a council tenant or leaseholder
Residents also have a responsibility to make their buildings safe. As a resident of a council building, you should:
- keep escape routes clear
- test your smoke alarm regularly
- report any fire hazards or concerns in your building
- dispose of waste properly to reduce fire risks
Engaging residents in the safety conversation
ASCP has partnered with CORGI Technical Services to produce a fire safety video for our residents.
This video demonstrates the importance of gas, electrical, and fire safety.
It also provides information about:
- what residents can do to help keep themselves and other people safe
- what to do if they have safety concerns
- why access is needed to complete vital safety checks
