Before you arrange an installation
You must apply to us for permission to install an EV charger at your council home.
This is to make sure any changes to the property are completed to an acceptable standard.
The EV charger needs to:
- be installed by a qualified installer
- be located entirely on your home, not on any shared walls or property
- not have any trailing wires or cables that extend on to communal areas, footpaths or highways
What we’ll need to know
When you apply to us for permission, you need to provide details about the installer and the planned installation.
Installer details
We’ll need their:
- name
- address
- insurance details
We’ll also need evidence that they:
- are Part P registered for domestic electrical work
- are a member of a relevant certification body such as NICEIC or NAPIT
- have City and Guilds 2921-34 in electric vehicle charger installation, or an equivalent qualification
- have wiring, containment and equipment that complies with current building regulations, IET codes and guidance, and BS7671 Wiring Regulations
Installation details
We’ll need:
- dates the installation is due to start and finish
- an installation plan, process or method
- a product specification
- risk assessments
- evidence of safe systems of work
- planning permission (if required)

After the installation
We may need to visit your home to inspect the EV charger.
