Tell us if your circumstances change

You must tell us about a change in your circumstances if you’re getting Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support.

If you do not tell us, we could pay you too much benefit and you’ll have to pay back the overpayment.

These changes in circumstances could include:

  • your address, if you move to another property
  • changes to your income, wages or savings
  • changes to your pension
  • changes to the income of other people living in your home
  • changes to your Universal Credit
  • someone else moving into your property
  • your children leaving school, starting university or starting work
  • anyone in your household going into hospital
  • you or your partner leaving the country
  • the birth of a child
  • the amount of rent you pay

It is your responsibility to tell us about any change of circumstances affecting you, your partner or anyone else living in your home.
