The National Graduate Development Programme (NGDP) is a unique national management trainee scheme for graduates, facilitated by the Local Government Authority (LGA). The NGDP is the only graduate programme that operates in local authorities across the country, meaning successful applicants receive the exclusive opportunity to grow their leadership skills and knowledge, across a range of disciplines, in a cornerstone organisation that encompasses every aspect of life in the UK.

NGDP in Royal Greenwich

Royal Greenwich has been part of the NGDP since 2003 and we recruit a new cohort of trainees every two years. Our next application window opens on 30 November 2020.

Over the course of the two-year programme, successful applicants will complete up to four placements in wide-ranging departments across the council - from children’s services, to ICT, to the Council Leader’s office and beyond. Several former trainees have remained with Royal Greenwich since completing their course and gone on to be highly valued members of our workforce.

Why choose Royal Greenwich?

Royal Greenwich is a fantastic place to live and work and many NGDP candidates seem to agree - over 26 per cent of the 5,000+ national applicants in the last round picked us as their top destination.

With over a quarter of a million residents from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds living in our borough, Royal Greenwich offers a genuine slice of British life today. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive borough in the heart of the capital, offering world-class parks, a rich cultural and historic background, and exciting future-thinking environmental housing and transport projects.

Ensuring the best for our residents is at the centre of everything we do here at the council, and we have developed a benchmark of core values and priorities to guide us as we work to improve people’s lives. Our vision to make sure residents are healthier, safer, cleaner, greener, housed, prosperous, and able to grow up well is outlined in our corporate plan. Local graduates with an understanding of what it’s like to live and work in our borough are particularly encouraged to apply.
