Dancing with Ankara and Gele is a Black History Month special, giving Woolwich residents and the wider community an opportunity to celebrate Nigerian culture, in a fun filled informative atmosphere through the expression of movement and dance. Dance with Ankara and Gele will help participants to increase their physical activity and wellbeing through traditional African movements, with a fitness foundation. Participants will explore the historical richness of the Nigerian Gele and learn how Ankara fabrics are largely embraced in West Africa.
All attendees will learn the fundamentals techniques of tying a Nigerian Gele. They will explore ways to headwrap their hair with Ankara as well as supportive hair styles that will keep their headwraps and Gele in place as they dance.
