Blackheath Halls Opera presents Bizet's Carmen, a new staging of one of the most frequently performed operas in the repertoire.
Set against a backdrop of jealousy, obsession and violence, the opera follows Carmen's determination to live life on her own terms, with tragic consequences. The score features many of Bizet's best-known works, including the Habanera, the Toreador Song and the Card Aria.
The production brings together professional soloists with the Blackheath Halls Chorus, Blackheath Halls Orchestra and Blackheath Halls Opera Youth Company. Students from Charlton Park Academy will also perform in the Sunday performances on 20 and 27 September.
The cast includes Katie Bray as Carmen, Oliver Johnston as Don José, Chuma Sijeqa as Escamillo and Meeta Raval as Micaëla, under the musical direction of Chris Stark and directed by Harry Fehr.
Performed in English (translation by Christopher Cowell), Carmen is recommended for audiences aged 10+ due to the themes explored in the work.
