History of the site
The name 'Kidbrooke' is of Anglo-Saxon origin and means 'the brook where the kites were seen'.

Kidbrooke was predominantly a farming community until the 1930s. Suburban development occurred rapidly after the Shooters Hill bypass (Rochester Way) was built.

Kidbrooke Green Park and Nature Reserve are situated on damp, heavy clay soil, and are remnants of the ancient village green.
Local Nature Reserve
The nature reserve area contains a number of small ponds which are home to a colony of newts. The Royal Borough of Greenwich has enlisted the help of amphibian charity Froglife to enhance the ponds. It is hoped that open days and environmental interpretation of the site will occur here in future.
Sports and play areas
Outdoor gym, basketball, netball and hard tennis courts.
