Eaglesfield Park

Title
Eaglesfield Park
Summary
Eaglesfield Park is one of Greenwich's Green Flag Award-winning sites.

Situated on the summit of Shooters Hill, the Green Chain Walk runs through the site and it is the highest open space in the borough. On a clear day, visitors can enjoy extensive views into Kent, including the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge at Dartford.

The park is divided by Eaglesfield Road. The lower half is managed with conservation in mind whilst the upper half has grassland, a children's playground and an ecological pond which was restored in 2011. The funding for the restoration was obtained by the park's friends group.

Highlights
The park is in two sections, divided by Eaglesfield Road. The western section is an excellent place to have a picnic. There is a well-equipped children's playground and, near to the highest point, a pond. An old, square-shaped pond was re-landscaped in 2010 in a partnership between the Parks and Open Spaces Team, the Friends of Eaglesfield Park and the amphibian charity Froglife. Local residents have planted aquatic plants around the pond's perimeter. The Green Chain Walk passes through this section of the park.

The lower, eastern section is managed as a meadow, and contains some midland hawthorn trees, which produce attractive red blossom in the spring.

Shrewsbury Park can be accessed by following the Green Chain Walk to the north. To the south lies Oxleas Wood.
