If a dependant relative lives in your annex
If your property has an annex, it's exempt from Council Tax if:
- the person who lives there is a dependant relative
- it's the sole or main home of the dependant relative
Check who counts as a relative.
Who can apply
You can apply if you're liable to pay Council Tax for the main house and your dependant relative is either:
- 65 or over
- under 65 and severely mentally impaired
- under 65 but substantially and permanently disabled
What you need to apply
You’ll need your 8-digit Council Tax account number. It’s shown at the top of your most recent Council Tax bill.
The form may ask you to upload proof that you're eligible for a discount.
Proof we need
We need a letter confirming your dependant relative's condition. This must be from a qualified professional, for example, a doctor.
Apply
You must answer all the questions on the form even if you know which discount you’re applying for.
