Corporate plan theme 5: The place to visit, work and do business

Outcome 1: More businesses and good quality jobs that benefit our communities

We will:

  • create better, secure, well-paid jobs across the borough by attracting investment, grow new and existing businesses, and back social enterprises and co-operatives
  • help local people access the skills, training and apprenticeships to build a career
  • use our spending, land and influence to keep more of the wealth we create in local hands, so a growing economy is felt in every community

Our commitments

We commit to:

  • making sure growth and investment reaches the residents and communities who need it most, with secure jobs, more spending with local businesses, and fairer access to opportunity
  • growing co-operative businesses in the borough, backing community energy, and exploring co-operative models in social care, so more people have a stake and a say in the local economy
  • using spaces across the borough to support businesses
  • setting up a Jobs of the Future Apprenticeship and backing small businesses so that local young people get good paying jobs in growing industries
